The 39-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring cast members Danny Vinson, a UNA alumnus now living in Huntsville, and Lisa Boston, of Lawrenceburg, TN., and Dr. Vince Brewton, assistant professor of English, UNA Department of English.

PRESENTORS



DAVID BERGMAN Based in Los Angeles, CA., Bergman is project director for Economics Research Associates, an international consulting firm focused on economic analysis for the entertainment and leisure industry, tourism and economic development. In particular, David has worked intensively on issues surrounding the formation of urban and regional development strategies and the role of culture industries in economic development.

ERA provides consulting services to government film commissions and private clients in motion-picture production, with an emphasis on sound-stage feasibility and identifying the economic-development potential of the industry in a particular region. LISA BOSTON Born in Memphis, TN, Lisa was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Louisville, KY, and Lawrenceburg, TN. She loved acting from her earliest childhood memories. She studied pre-med at Southern College and UTM and worked as a print and commercial model. She put her career on hold to start a family and had four children in her early 20s. As the children grew, so did interest among outside modeling and film agents and companies to use Lisa and her children for print and commercial models. They spent several years working in South Beach, Atlanta and Nashville. As work increased, so did her desire to get into film work. She began in Nashville with an independent film, Bedlam. Then came the lucky break when her son Wyatt was asked to audition for an independent film, Two Soldiers. Hoping to cast Wyatt in a leading role, writer-director Aaron Schneider cast Lisa in a featured role. The film won the 2004 Oscar for Best Live Action Short. Lisa moved to Los Angeles and worked on four films and many commercials. Now Mrs. John David Hall and the mother of four children ages 10-15, she continues her growth as a thespian and looks forward to many more years pursuing her film career. VIRGINIA BOWMAN is a digital trainer for Training and Artist Development at Sony Pictures Imageworks in Los Angeles. Imageworks is one of the leading high-end digital visual effects production studios for film. Virginia has been creating and teaching in the computer animation and effects field for the past 12 years. Prior to working as an instructor, she worked as a technical director on projects ranging from multimedia, music video, games and feature film. In feature films, she has provided aesthetic development and direction to other artists on films such as Star Trek: Insurrection, Stuart Little II and Matrix Reloaded. She currently teaches a robust curriculum, spanning classes on the Aesthetics of Lighting to Production Pipeline, teaching proprietary as well as off-the-shelf software and techniques. Her areas of focus are lighting and compositing. She has trained artists for films such as The Polar Express, The Haunted Mansion and the Oscar-winning Spider-Man II.

VINCE BREWTON An assistant professor of English in the University of North Alabama Department of English, Vince Brewton grew up in Hattiesburg, MS, and has an A.B from Duke University and a Ph.D. in American Literature from Ole Miss. He teaches American and Southern literature at UNA and is director of the new UNA Honors Program.

He has written on Southern literature for The Southern Quarterly, The Encyclopedia of American Literature, The Southern Literary Journal and Mississippi Quarterly.

BETTY CLARK A former advertising executive, Betty Clark has been a leader in the entertainment industry for more than 25 years. She is currently the president and chief executive officer of TML Talent Agency, one of the largest and most prestigious talent agencies in Nashville, TN. As such, Betty represents and advises many of Music Cityıs most popular actors, announcers, on-air personalities and models.

She is also the co-founder of Spotland Productions Inc., a leading Nashville commercial recording studio. She was instrumental in the formation of the film/video division of the Nashville Music Association, now the Nashville Entertainment Association. ROBERT DUKE After studying theater technology and design at the University of Memphis, Robert Duke began working as a gaffer, grip and electric on film projects across the country. His credits include the Oscar-nominated feature 21 Grams, starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts, Robert Hallıs independent feature Lightning Bug - winner of the Best of Show and Best Professional Feature Awards at the 2004 George Lindsey/UNA Film Festival - the independent film Constellation, starring Billy Dee Williams and Rae Dawn Chong, the upcoming Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, and commercials for Lincoln-Mercury, Conway Regional Hospital, the U.S. Army and the Memphis Grizzlies. He now lives in the Shoals.

DONNIE FRITTS One of the architects of the world-famous ³Muscle Shoals sound,² Florence native Donnie Fritts remains one of the mythic heroes of the music industry. His long list of classic songs including We Had It All, Breakfast in Bed, Youıre Gonna Love Yourself in the Morning and Choo-Choo Train have been recorded by artists ranging from Ray Charles, Dusty Springfield, The Box Tops and the Rolling Stones to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Donnie spent 22 years playing keyboards in Kris Kristoffersonıs touring band.

As an actor, he has appeared in three Sam Peckinpah films; Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia and Convoy - as well as A Star is Born, Songwriter, The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James and the upcoming mockumentary, The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico.

CHAD GREEN An alumnus of the University of North Alabama, Chad got his start in the entertainment industry as a performer fronting various Muscle Shoals-based bands throughout the 1990ıs. He began working with ASCAP as an intern during the summer of 1995, followed by two years of contract employment. During this time, he also gained music publishing experience working part-time for Nashville-based companies, including Crossfire Entertainment and Mike OıRear Publishing. In the fall of 1998 he accepted full time employment with ASCAP serving assuming the position of Nashville Membership Representative in March 2004.

Chad holds a B.S. degree in Commercial Music from the University of North Alabama and is a current member of the Country Music Association (CMA), Academy of Country Music (ACM), Gospel Music Association (GMA), Nashville Songwriters Association, International (NSAI), and the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). TONYA HOLLY An alumnus of the University of North Alabama and former regional talent agent, Holly worked as a professional casting director and production assistant on several major film and television projects before returning to the Shoals to establish her own production company. Her feature-film credits include Freejack, Raw Nerve, Toy Soldiers, Body Snatchers, Tom and Huck, Out on a Limb and the Oscar-winning Blue Sky.For television, she worked on Against the Odds, XXXıs and OOOıs, The Tuskegee Airmen, Lakota Moon and Godıs Bad Boy segment of Saturday Night with Connie Chung.

She founded Cypress Moon Productions in 2003 and wrote and directed the award-winning short film The Mirror. Since opening Cypress Moon Studios in the old Muscle Shoals Sound Studios building in Sheffield, Tonya has been busy producing and directing the feature film When I Find the Ocean, based on her original script.

BOBBIE HURT A retired assistant professor of journalism from the University of North Alabama, Hurt worked as a newspaper reporter before becoming a journalism teacher. She co-founded the George Lindsey/UNA Film Festival in 1998 and remains a member of the festivalıs steering committee. She currently serves as a volunteer coordinator for the Film Commission of Northwest Alabama, temporarily housed at the Shoals Chamber of Commerce offices in Florence. TERRY PACE A professional journalist for the past 25 years, the Shoals native and University of North Alabama graduate is the entertainment editor of the TimesDaily, a New York Times Regional Newspaper in Florence. He is also an actor, writer, director and producer for the stage, film and radio. Terry teaches film courses in the UNA Department of Continuing Studies and writes about film for Cult Movies, Scarlet Street, Filmfax and other national magazines. In 2002, he formed Pillar of Fire Productions with world-famous author Ray Bradbury. His screen credits include the animated film The Brooch, the award-winning chiller SadoMannequin and the dark thriller Goody Gum Drops. CEDRIC PENDLETON A native of Florence, Cedric Pendleton III is a renowned actor, Capoeirista (practitioner of an African martial tradition), spoken-word artist, comedian, producer, teacher and motivational speaker. As an actor, he has performed in more than 20 theatrical productions from New York to Atlanta. Now based in Los Angeles, CA., his television credits include appearances in the television shows Dawsonıs Creek, Sheena, The Guardian, Strong Medicine, One Tree Hill, NYPD Blue and a recurring role as Tio on Foxıs groundbreaking series, The Shield. Cedricıs film appearances include roles in Nothinı 2 Lose, Pay the Price, Tara, Summer Catch, Runaway Jury, Duck and the recent box-office smash Diary of a Mad Black Woman. ³Some people are born to do certain things,² Cedric says. ³It is my birthright to act. KNOX PHILLIPS As the oldest son of the late Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, Knox Phillips and his younger brother, Jerry, now carry on a rich musical tradition that began in their fatherıs hometown of Florence.

Based in Memphis, Nashville and the Shoals, their family music and radio enterprises include Knox Music, Power Diamond Music, Sam Phillips Recording, Midnight Sun Records and Florenceıs own Big River Broadcasting system of regional radio stations.

A producer, publisher and studio owner in his own right, Knox lives and works in Memphis, where he has recorded memorable sessions for artists ranging from Jerry Lee Lewis to John Prine. BILLY SWAN Best known for his bouncy, neo-rockabilly smash ³I Can Help,² singersongwriter Billy Swan has had a long and varied career in the music business. Lover Please, a song he wrote at age 16, became a Top 10 hit for rhythm-and-blues star Clyde McPhatter. He produced Tony Joe Whiteıs Top 10 smash Polk Salad Annie, and he wrote songs for Mel Tillis, Conway Twitty and Waylon Jennings. As a solo artist, Swanıs own recording of I Can Help became a No. 1 hit on both the pop and country charts in 1974. He played bass in Kris Kristoffersonıs road band (alongside friend and colleague Donnie Fritts) and has also worked with Billy Joe Shaver, T-Bone Burnett and Kinky Friedman. His film work includes David Lynchıs Wild at Heart, the Jerry Lee Lewis biopic Great Balls of Fire and Peter Bogdanovichıs The Thing Called Love.

LINDA SWANN Since March 2003, Linda Swann has managed the Alabama Film Office and the Community Service Division (Existing Industry and Community Development Programs) in the Alabama Development Office in Montgomery. Before joining ADO, her consulting firm, Economic Development Services and Strategies, offered assistance in the design and implementation of several programs, including organizational models for community and economic development.

DANNY VINSON An alumnus of the University of North Alabama, Danny Vinson was born an identical twin on May 6, 1954, in Russellvile, Alabama, and grew up in Huntsville. At the age of 21, Danny began his acting career at the University of North Alabama, in the theatre production of My Three Angels with Sal Mineo, Broderick Crawford and Peter Breck. He then set his sights on learning and improving the craft of working to the camera. His efforts have allowed him to list principal credits ranging from national commercials to feature films, short subjects, music videos, and documentaries. He has two feature films due out this year: Our Very Own, with Keith Carradine and Allison Janney, and the highly anticipated Johnny Cash bio flick Walk the Line, scheduled for a November 18 release. Dannyıs other film work includes the Oscar-winning Two Soldiers, A Time to Kill, The People vs. Larry Flynt, A Good Baby and U.S. Marshals.

Danny has just completed work on his eighteenth film, the locally produced When I Find the Ocean, and in May he will begin his nineteenth movie, China, which marks his first leading role. LLOYD WELLS a working guitarist, arranger, orchestrator and composer for 43 years, began scoring films in the 1960ıs through a grant from Hofstra University. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, he has worked as a guitarist on 18 Broadway musicals;Cabaret, Company, Zorba, etc., The Johnny Carson Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, and The Tony Awards.

Wells was music director for Opryland USA for 23 years until the park closed in 1998, and he was arranger/conductor for Tennessee Ernie Ford for the last 15 years of Fordıs life. Wellsı arrangements have been played in Carnegie Hall, on the Voice of America radio network, by the Nashville Symphony, in Opryland USA theme park and Fiesta Texas theme park, and on numerous nation-wide community concert tours. His film scoring includes documentaries, public service films, convention videos, and industrial subjects.

Wells was also guitarist on the original programs of Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and on two films with scores by John Kander of Chicago, one of which, a documentary on Norman Rockwell, won an Academy Award.
