ACTOR TERRY CREWS TO RECEIVE 2020 NAB TELEVISION CHAIRMAN'S AWARD
Terry Crews
|
Terry Crews, the popular Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor and America’s Got Talent host will accept the prestigious Television Chairman's Award at at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) during the We Are Broadcasters Celebration on Tuesday, April 21 at the 2020 NAB Show in Las Vegas. The NAB TV Chairman’s Award recognizes individuals for significant achievement in one or more specific art disciplines in television.
Crews is an actor, comedian, activist and artist. He is well known for his humorous pitchman persona in numerous national commercials, his memorable action-movie hero role in The Expendables franchise and for his breakthrough television performances in sitcoms such as Everybody Hates Chris, and host of various competition shows, including Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Crews’ film credits include Sorry to Bother You; Deadpool 2; White Chicks; Idiocracy, and several popular Adam Sandler films, including Blended and The Longest Yard. His upcoming roles include appearances in the upcoming animated features The Willoughby’s and Rumble.
From 1991-1998 Crews was famous for playing as a defensive end and linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins, as well as in the World League of American Football with Rhein Fire, and college football at Western Michigan University.
Crews considers his first job in the entertainment industry to be a stint as a courtroom sketch artist in Flint, Michigan. He later performed the role for the local station, WJRT. During his football career, Crews supplemented his income by creating portraits of fellow players. At times it was the primary income on which his family depended, typically bringing $5,000 for a two-month commission. His work included a series of NFL-licensed lithographs.
“Terry Crews’ unique ability to entertain audiences transcends traditional television crossing a variety of genres and mediums,” said NAB Television Board Chair Emily Barr. “He is a steadfast advocate for human rights, and we are humbled to present him with this well-deserved honor.”
Beyond the screen, Crews is noted as a public advocate for women's rights and activist against sexism. For going public with his stories of abuse his family endured at the hands of his violent father he was included among the group of people named as Time Magazine's Person of the Year in 2017 as one of the “Silence Breakers,” speaking out against sexual harassment as part of the #MeToo movement. He also works with the Polaris Project, a leading non-profit organization in the global fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery, for which he was awarded the UN Global Generation Award.
In 2014, Crews released his autobiography, Manhood: How to Be a Better Man or Just Live with One. In the book, Crews detailed his long-standing pornography addiction, which had seriously affected his life and marriage to Rebecca King whom he had married on July 29, 1989 and produced five children. He overcame this addiction around 2009 and 2010 after entering rehabilitation. Since then he has taken an active role in speaking out about the condition and its impact.
On October 10, 2017, in the wake of numerous Hollywood actresses coming forward with their stories of sexual harassment and assault by film producer Harvey Weinstein, Crews revealed that a male Hollywood executive had groped him at a party in 2016 but he did not report the incident for fear of retaliation. It was later revealed that the "high-level executive" was Adam Venit, head of the motion picture department of the talent company William Morris Endeavor (WME).
Crews filed a lawsuit against Venit and WME for sexual assault. Some witnesses stated that Venit had gotten intoxicated, dismissed the groping as "horseplay", and apologized to Crews the next day. WME responded to the lawsuit, arguing that their reaction to Crews' claims was "both swift and serious". In March 2018, prosecutors decided not to file any charges against Venit citing the statute of limitations to prosecute Venit had expired, as the incident was in February 2016 and Crews had not reported it until November 2017.
The NAB Television Chairman's Award first debuted in 2009 with four-time Emmy and two-time Golden Globe-winning actor Kelsey Grammar as the recipient. Past recipients include This Is Us and Black Panther star Sterling K. Brown, television and film actress Kristen Bell, and award-winning actress and producer America Ferrera, among others.
NAB Show, held April 18-22, 2020, in Las Vegas is the world's largest convention encompassing media, entertainment and technology. With more than 90,000 attendees from 160 countries and 1,600+ exhibitors, NAB Show is "the ultimate marketplace for solutions that transcend traditional broadcasting and fuel the digital storytelling economy. From creation to consumption, across multiple platforms, NAB Show is where global visionaries convene to bring content to life in new and exciting ways."
The National Association of Broadcasters is considered the premier advocacy association for America's broadcasters. "NAB advances radio and television interests in legislative, regulatory and public affairs. Through advocacy, education and innovation, NAB enables broadcasters to best serve their communities, strengthen their businesses and seize new opportunities in the digital age."

GRAMMY MUSEUM PRESENTS BEYOND BLACK — THE STYLE OF AMY WINEHOUSE
Amy Winehouse
|
Six-time Grammy winner Amy Winehouse has been widely renowned not just as a British music icon and pop royalty,
but as a trendsetting fashion influencer. To showcase the late singer's iconic outfits, as well as never-before-seen handwritten
lyrics, journal entries and other reflections from her family's personal archive, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles
presents the first-ever Winehouse exhibit in the United States. The exhibit will open on January 17, 2020 and will run
through April 13, 2020.
Beyond Black — The Style Of Amy Winehouse will offer a retrospective of Winehouse's career, her biggest influences, her most iconic fashion moments, and how she - while only living to be 27 and releasing two studio albums - left an indelible mark on music, fashion and pop culture. Winehouse's unique musical style and fashion sense were a reflection of her musical influences, including legacy artists Frank Sinatra, Shangri-Las, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and more, as well as contemporaries in hip-hop and R&B, including Salt-N-Pepa, Nas, Beastie Boys, Lauryn Hill, En Vogue, and more. The exhibit will also touch on how Winehouse's untimely passing led her family to create the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which works to inspire children and young people to build their self-esteem and resilience, so that they can flourish.
"Amy always credited my mother, her grandmother Cynthia, as a major influence, both stylistically - as she taught her the importance of grooming and having a look - and musically," said Winehouse's father, Mitch Winehouse. "She liked to call me a 'cab-driving Sinatra' and her mother's side of the family were also musicians. Amy not only brought her gift of music to the world, but also her fashion. We're eager for people to see her bold, beautiful spirit through all forms of her creativity and look forward to honoring her legacy by displaying these items at the Grammy Museum."
"Amy had a rebellious rock and roll style and attitude, which she made all her own with her signature beehive updo, winged eyeliner, tattoos, and bold red lipstick," said Winehouse's stylist, Naomi Parry. "She had a clear vision of who she was and what she wanted the world to see. Working with Amy was one of my most satisfying and creative times in my career. I'm excited for the world to finally see the looks we created for what would have been her 2011 summer festival tour."
Exhibit highlights include:
Never-before-seen handwritten lyrics and journal entries
Never-before-seen home video
Winehouse's halter dress worn at her final stage performance in Belgrade in 2011
Custom-made, but never worn, dresses by stylist Naomi Parry for Winehouse's cancelled 2011 summer festival tour
Winehouse's yellow Preen ‘Power Dress’ and bold red leather heart-shaped Moschino purse with velvet lining used at the 2007 BRIT Awards
Winehouse's 2008 GRAMMY Awards® outfit designed by Dolce & Gabbana
Capsule collections personally designed by Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry's line, including a black cotton twill varsity style jacket with grey leather sleeves monogrammed with "Amy" in the front
A mohair leopard-style pattern cardigan by Dolce & Gabbana that Winehouse was photographed wearing leaving a favorite stomping ground of hers, the Hawley Arms Pub in Camden, London
Winehouse's Grammy Awards
Many of the items on display will be auctioned to benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which will take place at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills November 6 -7, 2021.

THE MUSIC GOES ROUND AND ROUND
WANDA'S WORLD STUDIO CAST RECORDING
Sometimes good things take a long time. For instance Wanda's World - Studio Cast Recording soundtrack from 2008, with a score by Beth Falcone and a book by Eric H. Weinberger has just been released by Broadway Records.
According to producer Michael J. Moritz on June 24th and 25th, 2019, the Drama Desk nominated musical Wanda’s World took to Sound on Sound Studios in Montclair, NJ to record a cast album starring Broadway vets Nancy Opel, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Arielle Jacobs, Alex Boniello, Max Crumm, Troy Iwata, Mallory Bechtel, Christiana Cole, Christine de Frece, Justin Guarini, Troy Iwata, Brittney Johnson, Tony LePage, Isabelle McCalla, Chris Medlin, and Brittany Zeinstra.
Timely and appropriate in 2008, the same can be said for today. Why it took 14 years for this score to be recorded is a mystery. What's important is that - now - it has been captured. This score has important messages on how to overcome almost any adverse situation.
Definitely created for teens and tweens the beat is hard and energetic. The messages are empowering and important.
Wanda Butternut fantasizes that she is the popular host of the hit TV talk show "Wanda's World," where kids call in to get advice from Wanda to solve their problems. In her fantasy she is a beautiful, confident and always knows what to say. In real life, Wanda is a middle school girl with a big birthmark on her face, who is terrified to deal with the first day of school in a new town. Gradually, with the help of an extraordinary teacher, she overcomes incredible odds and learns to follow her own path.
Advise ranges from grooming reminders to brush your hair and teeth to being shy, weight issues, being bullied, how a new school can be a chance to start over. When you want to be polite, but somebody else wants to fight. Dealing with gossip. When you feel that you have to be perfect. Friends who are enemies. Not being pretty. The ending, important, message is: If you don't try you can't succeed.
All delivered in an easy to understand, perky song cycle which knows its target audience.
Actually, this the messages in this recording are perfect, accurate and helpful for any age.

Four generations of The Royal Family - Prince William, Prince George, Queen Elizabeth
and Prince Charles came together to support The Royal British Legion's "Together at Christmas" initiative,
aimed at supporting the British armed forces and veterans through festive parties
at the charity's outreach centers. The Queen and three future kings washed their hands and then headed to their mixing bowls this past week preparing special Royal British Legion Christmas puddings in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace.
The new Royal British Legion recipe was created for the launch, with The Royal Family uniquely adding poppy seeds
to the mixture, in a nod to the charity’s iconic symbol of Remembrance.
The Legion hosts the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall to commemorate all those who have
lost their lives in conflict. Fundraisers also include a calendar and a recipe book.

Next year, the palace said in their announcement, the four Christmas puddings will become the centerpieces, included
in the 99 (one for each year of the 99 years the Royal British Legion has been
in existence) to be served at the legion's meeting centers.
In order for the flavors to meld, brandied fruitcakes need to be properly stored to ripen before serving.
That process takes anywhere from a month to a year.
Six-year-old Prince George is reported to be an asset in the kitchen, helping to unload groceries. He also knows how to make pancakes for Shove Tuesday.

VANNA WHITE wrapping up
her emergency step up to hostingWheel of Fortune did a magnificent job.
She only exhibited a few seconds of minuscule nervousness during the very
first show. By the time the first week ended, the letter turner projected herself
as a seasoned veteran of chit chat and wheel spinning. Stand-in letter board celebrities -
Mickey and Minnie Mouse - were adorable. Especially the twirling and hand gesturing Minnie.
Shows with the returned, well mended Pat Sajak begin airing the first part of the New Year.
JANE FONDA eschewed
ice cream and birthday cake, celebrating her 82nd birthday by getting arrested in Washington, DC.
On lookers serenaded her by singing Happy Birthday as the Oscar winner was led away
in handcuffs. On the eve of her birthday the long term activist took a gamble as this was her
5th arrest meaning she could receive a jail term. However, she was released that night.
Capitol Police said 138 people were arrested, including Rosanna Arquette, Gloria Steinem and Casey Willson. They were taking part in the Fire Drill Friday demonstrations which protest climate change. Two protestors remained in the slammer overnight.
