WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY BY DERMOT DOLAN IS QUIRKY AND WELL WRITTEN
David Beck directs Neil Frost, Edward Harrison and Catherine Morris.
Two guys are walking through a leaf strew lane. Did they or did they not see something? Are they rambling or thinking? What are they going to do - if anything?
Are they prone to get things done - even if that is nothing? A female passerby joins them.
These three strangers become fixated and entranced by something they think they have seen. What is it? Why have they stopped to investigate? Is it alive? Will they agree on what to do? Can they collaborate or will personality traits get in the way?
They argue whether they should call a conference or a meeting. The pressure of getting things done becomes "too harsh" as they encounter the stress of worrying that somebody will come along and do something.
You have to be doing something to be productive they assert. Does looking count as doing something?
They muse about potential leaders proclaiming they know what to do and can lead and then consider options including delegating, consulting and possibly keeping others informed on future discussions.
This light audio comedy explores themes of inertia, inaction, indecision, procrastination and delusion.
Very clever and smart. Skewers the common practice of taking too long to make easy decisions and creating problems when none exist.

Vilnius Light Festival

the capital of Lithuania, have been lit up with colorful lights for the 3rd Light Festival August 13-15th. The event, which attracted 200K spectators last year, has created an illuminated route from the New to the Old Town, with almost 20 light installations by Lithuanian and foreign artists along the way.
The colorful light art highlights the allure of city squares, red-roofed buildings, and green spaces. The light installations combine art with technical solutions with elements of science to build an impressive overall effect. The spectators have the opportunity to admire the dancing fountains "Liquid Dance" next to the newest district in the capital, Paupys, and an astronomical spectacle "Nova" by artists from the United Kingdom in the Pond Park.
Even quantum mechanics has found its audience—an audiovisual installation "The Spin," inspired by 20th century quantum physics theories, stuns the crowd in the recently-reformed 400-year-old Reformers’ Garden. The route comes to a symbolic ending: the last stop on Tauras Hill, which offers views to both the modern and the old buildings of the capital, is illuminated with an artistic composition “Hope.

PAUL CEZANNE: INFLUENCE Paul Cézanne, Madame Cézanne in a Red Armchair, about 1877

this exhibition features 21 portraits, landscapes, and still lifes and places Cézanne’s works at the center of a dialogue that speaks to the generative power of the connection between artists across time.
For Paul Cézanne (1839–1906), creativity grew from a fusion of observing the world, trusting one’s own spirit, and studying the works of his predecessors. In turn, Cézanne’s creative vision—and the paintings that flowed from it—compelled other artists who followed.
Bringing together works by painters from the 18th through the 20th centuries—from Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot to Pablo Picasso, Charles Sheeler, Georges Braque, and Henri Matisse—this exhibition places Cézanne’s works at the center of a dialogue that speaks to the generative power of the connection between artists across time. Featuring 21 portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, the works on view include MFA icons such as Madame Cézanne in a Red Armchair (about 1877) in addition to seven rarely seen loans of works by Cézanne from private collections.
Paul Cézanne: Influence follows Cézanne: In and Out of Time, an exhibition that explored the artist’s work within the context of his contemporaries. On display through October17 at the Boston Museum of Fine Art - Boston, MA.

THE FOUNTAIN THEATRE in Los Angeles has been awarded a WarnerMedia Arts and Culture grant funded by the AT&T Foundation to support Walking the Beat Los Angeles, a pioneering arts education program for inner city high school youth and police officers.
Now in its second year at the Fountain, Walking the Beat utilizes performing arts as a vehicle for youth empowerment and community building, providing transformative experiences for underserved youth and police officers.
Eighteen 9th through 12th graders from five Los Angeles area schools — Hawthorne High School, Hollywood High, Los Angeles High School of the Arts @ RFK, Pasadena High and San Pedro High — have been working since mid-June with two detectives from the Los Angeles School Police Department and one officer from the UCLA Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit to create Blackout 2021, an original multi-media performance work that focuses on the shift from a culture of incarceration to a culture of care. Each of the students receives a stipend as well as community service hours.
Written by Walking the Beat curriculum director and program facilitator Angela Kariotis with original writings by the ensemble, Blackout 2021 is directed by Theo Perkins. Perkins is executive and artistic director of New Jersey’s Elizabeth Youth Ensemble, which created the program five years ago. The Los Angeles creative team also includes choreographer Nicholas Rodriguez, sheltered yoga instructor Tine LeMar and drama therapist Adam Stevens. Due to the pandemic, Blackout 2021 was conceived as a virtual/hybrid program and will be screened on the Fountain Theatre’s Covid-safe outdoor stage over the course of two evenings at the end of August.

County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, The Allison Thomas Racial Justice Fund, The Phillips-Gerla Family, Sharyk Overhoser, Carrie Chassin and Jochen Haber, Friars Charitable Foundation, Toby and Daniel Bernstein, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
SPREADING THE WORD
THE OLYMPICS MOVE TO PARIS for the 2004 games. Will firefighting be on the program?
Did you know that firefighting was one of the sports in the Paris Olympics of 1900?
Professional and volunteer firefighters competed in 4 events from August 13-19.
The Kansas City “hook and ladder company number one” took gold medal in the professional event for the US.
The US report on the sporting events at the Exposition mentions that “England, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Bohemia, Hungary, Canada, Algeria, France, Russia, Luxemburg, Holland, Romania, and the United States were represented in this contest.” However, the Official Report only lists firefighting crews from France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and the United States - which speculation that the second list refers to those who made the finals. The events were held at the Bois de Vincennes. This is the only time firefighting has been at the Olympics, and there is no chance it will be on the Olympic Program in the future.
1900 Paris Olympic Firefighter Silver Medal
|
In 2014 a 1900 Paris Olympic Silver Medal For Firefighting was put up for auction by Heritage Auctions. "The offered silver medal from Paris' 1900 Olympics was presented for firefighting. Fire brigades from around the world gathered at the Exposition for top honors. The medal features a winged Liberty on the front with "Republique Francaise, Paris 1900, Exposition Universelle." The edge is hallmarked with "Argent," while the back shows an athlete atop a podium reading "Concours De Sapeurs Pompiers." In Excellent-Mint condition, this is a fine example of a turn of the century silver Olympic medal." It sold on November 7, 2014 and is currently for sale.
According to the auction site:
"Make Offer to Owner $1,506 or more. This item's owner is actively responding to (though not necessarily routinely accepting) offers. Most owners in this category are still actively buying, and therefore interested only in offers where they can net (after our 10% fee) an amount sufficiently above today's market value. Owners in this category seldom counter-offer, and will usually simply reject offers placed at current auction values or lower."

THE BOOK OF MORON a new comedy written by and starring Robert Dubac.
Originally directed by the late Garry Shandling.
In The Book of Moron, Dubac portrays an everyman who has lost sight of the bigger picture. He's been bombarded by so much hype and spin that he can't remember who he is or what he believes. Can he think for himself? Is the truth in the details or in the pudding? He hasn't a clue. Stuck in a coma of stupidity (his IQ has dropped to Q) he racks his brain searching for answers but finds nothing but voices. Inner voices that take him on a freight train of provocative thought to find the bigger picture and wake up from the dumbing down of modern-day life. Having been brainwashed by a culture that worships image over character, delusion over truth, and selfies over self-effacement; can he snap out of it?
The Book of Moron was workshopped in Los Angeles, Denver, and New York in 2015 and has toured the country extensively since 2016.
Set design is by Melissa Moore, and sound and lighting design is by Jacob Gilbert.
Performances began August 12 and opening night is set for August 23 at The SoHo Playhouse in New York City.
WALLS AND WINDOWS by Rosaleen McDonagh.
Directed by Jason Byrne.

WITH THEMED RESTAURANTS A DIME A DOZEN LONDON'S PARK ROW IS DIFFERENT
Spacious Park Row restaurant
|
Themes eateries have been on the menu for decades. They range from raw to overcooked. Only a few have diners asking for seconds.
A new kid on the block has some interesting, adventurous offerings, including customers trying to snatch floating food with their mouths. There is also a nod to Bansky with a painting whose color drains as a drink is pored.
London's Park Row is the UK's first DC Universe-inspired restaurant created in partnership with Warner Bros.
This fully immersive restaurant experience features five premium restaurant and bar spaces, Park Row combines "multi-sensory storytelling with world-class food and drink that draws from some of Gotham City’s most famous (and infamous) residents, creating a gastronomic theme park for comic book fans and foodies."
Situated within a stunning Grade II listed Art Deco venue within the heart of London’s theatre-land, guests step off the streets of Soho and descend into the DC universe via a secret door in Wayne Manor, home to the famous billionaire.
With a focus on first-class dining and storytelling, each of the five spaces takes the guest on a journey from the streets of London to the depths of Gotham City’s underworld. Drawing inspiration from some of Gotham City’s most famous (and infamous) residents, including The Penguin, Harley Quinn, The Joker, Catwoman and more, each space has its own signature style providing a whole host of options for guests, from signature cocktails and spirit collections, to dining and live music.
Rogues Gallery
|
Rogues Gallery - Fine art connoisseur and curator Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, hosts – with the help of master forger Roscoe Chiara - an exhibition of specially reproduced stolen paintings and sculptures commemorating the DC Super-Villains who call Gotham City home. It's a restaurant within a gallery.
Cocktails include The Blue Boy - a gin, blue curacao and citrus cocktail poured from a painting whose color gradually drains as the drink fills the glass – and Paying For College, a unique twist on a passion-fruit martini. In addition, the restaurant gallery presents the world’s first ‘levitating’ cocktail molecule served over a rose gold plinth. Senses are heightened and gravity defied as the molecule moves through the air ready to be consumed.
Pennyworth’s - This is the home away from home for billionaire Bruce Wayne and named in honor of the Wayne family’s loyal butler Alfred.
Pennyworth’s is an undisputed Art Deco masterpiece, with nods to Alfred’s British past. Diners enter the basement venue through an "an emotional triggering mist". Eagle-eyed diners may even spot artwork and heirlooms from the Wayne family’s private collection. Signature cocktails include At Your Service, a homage to the beloved butler and the whisky-focused bar includes a rare bottling created for Park Row called Inishtree, named after the Scottish town where Castle Wayne is located.
Iceberg Lounge
|
The Iceberg Lounge - literally the coolest place in Gotham City. Founded and operated by the infamous Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, the design indulges his signature quirks with a giant penguin sculpture situated above the bar, and ornithological artworks adorning the walls.
Cocktails include Love Me, Love My Umbrella (vodka, dry vermouth, St Germain, lemon juice, strawberry syrup and soda) and a tall, refreshing Iceberg Fizz.
Park Row is no ordinary restaurant as trolleys serve up smaller snacks like nitro popcorn, edible helium balloons and nitro ice cream.
The menu at Park Row is designed by Exec Chef Kim Woodward, formerly of The Savoy Grill and 100 Wardour. Dishes lean towards the luxurious – including a whole truffled chicken for two, and a stunning steak tartare – but there are plenty of accessible options and fan favorites, including DC’s iconic Big Belly Burger and Bruce Wayne’s beloved Mulligatawny soup. There’s also a seafood focus, with a caviar selection from Gotham City Harbor, along with a seafood platter served in a silver octopus and garnished with whole lobster.
Desserts are by former BakeOff: The Professionals Leyre Pedrazuela and incorporate stunning theatrical flourishes, while subtly linking to key scenes and characters. These include the Cask of Balvenie, a smoked whisky baba with coffee cremeaux, smoked caramel and whisky ice cream as a nod to Bruce Wayne’s ancestral home, as well as the Kiss From A Rose, an ode to Martha Wayne, with a tart garnished at table with nitro frozen petals. For those wanting to share there’s also a flambéed ‘frozen iceberg’ for two, lit at your table, bringing the spectacle direct to the diner’s plate.
The Monarch Theatre is a 20-seat venue in which a narrator will guide groups in a sensory and gastronomic journey through the "history of heroism" with themes of fear, hope, love, truth and greed in an eleven-course tasting menu with drinks for £195 ($270.00) per person subtly paying homage to some of DC universe’s most iconic Super Heroes and Super-Villains. Dishes by Exec Chef Karl O’Dell (formerly of Michelin-starred Texture) take guests on a culinary and visual journey with the help of floor-to-ceiling screens and 360-degree projection mapping. Truly a one-of-a-kind gastronomic show, with carefully crafted staging and immersive courses that play with the senses.
Created by Park Row founder James Bulmer, The Monarch Theatre experience is designed to trigger specific emotions through the environment of the room and the food on the table which tie into the theatrical narrative of the evening. Highlights include a ‘poisonous’ mushroom made from a rich and earthy parfait; a decadent scallop, oyster, caviar and white chocolate dish topped with gold leaf; a USDA Black Angus tenderloin with truffle fit for the Bruce Wayne dinner table; and edible jewellery.
With neons by God’s Own Junkyard, sculptures by Jimmie Martin, Ewan Eason and more, Park Row is an art-lovers paradise – all are for sale on Park Row Black.
Theatrical magic and immersive special effects have been carefully curated by Broadway illusionist and mind-reader Chris Cox.
The average spend per person in Park Row is from £55 ($76.26), the Monarch Theatre is a set price of £195 ($270.00) - includes drinks and service.
Commonly known as ‘Crime Alley’, Park Row was once one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Gotham City before it became a notorious area for poverty and criminal activity. Park Row restaurant is where you’d expect DC Super-Villains, crooked politicians and greedy businessmen of Gotham City to frequent, despite the efforts of Batman and his allies to rid the city of crime.
