RUM RUNNER SUE - OUEF IS ENOUGH - IS A CLIFF HANGER MYSTERY

It's prohibition America. 1917 on the border between Canada and Minnesota which has outlawed capital punishment.

It's pointed out that one of the benefits of living in Minnesota is that one minute you're hob nobbling with state dignitaries and the next minute you're ten miles from nowhere in a birch-bark canoe.

Rum Runner Sue is a prohibition-era bar owner and skilled amateur detective, although the townsfolk think she uses her amateur detective skills as a way of getting the sheriff to show a romantic interest in her. Sue and her best friend Mary, who once worked in a "Joy House" - are enjoying a rare day off on horseback, until they stumble across, insurance agent Percy, an unpopular out-of-towner, who is in the grass. He has a hole in his chest and a hatchet near his right hand. It looked liked somebody packed for a picnic. And, why are the only eggs broken the ones down the center of the crate?

When the sheriff eyeballs Possum Jack as the suspect, Sue knows the sheriff has the wrong man and jumps into action. A cliff hanger of an ending leaves the listener eager for the next episode.

Creative, well written, expertly acted, excellent sound effects, fast paced, yet extremely articulate - easy to understand every word. Attention holding.

Stars Billie Jo Konze as Sue, Trelawney Erwin as Mary, Jim Yount as Beau, Justin Kapla as Possum Jack & Anderson, Diane Adams as the secretary, and Jeffrey Adams as Wormy Roger.

Konze is a native Midwesterner (Wisconsin/Minnesota) who recently relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Konze does improv and has made a specialty out of playing bitchy southern women. Like most actors, she's worked "a lot of strange jobs. I used to be a carhop at a 50's diner (roller-skates, poodle skirt and all). I have also been a princess at the Mall of America, and for years, I was a Standardized Patient at the University of Minnesota medical school, pretending to have various ailments for the purposes of training the doctors of the future."

Trelawney Erwin is a seasoned voice over actor with a BA in Dramatic Arts. She's been a voice actor for 14 years.

Written by Jeffrey Adams who also did the editing, sound effects and music created with loops from Loppmaster. Some sound effects from The Freesound Project at Freesound dot org.

Recorded on May 5, 2022. Presented by Wireless Theatre Company. Partial funding made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.

ART AND ABOUT

THE VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF HISTORY & CULTURE
Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Photo: Visit Richmond, Virginia.
in Richmond, Virginia will reopen this month after the most extensive and transformative renovation in its nearly 200-year history. Renewed and reinvigorated, the VMHC will offer a dramatically expanded, welcoming and innovative museum experience for all visitors to engage with a shared past and the stories that connect Virginians and Americans. Through its nationally significant collection of more than 9 million objects, renowned research library, galleries and public programs, the VMHC is committed to serving and authentically reflecting all Virginians and demonstrating the centrality of Virginia to the narrative of the United States.

Designed to engage, inform and inspire, the new museum recognizes that history is personal, and that the most effective way to communicate is to ensure that all visitors see themselves at the museum — in its objects and stories. The VMHC looks to open minds young and old, offer different perspectives and make connections between yesterday and today by presenting history through a fresh and accessible lens.

Nearly two-thirds of the VMHC’s 250,000-square-foot building has been renovated, and additions have been built upwards, while the ground footprint has remained the same. This $30+ million transformation allows for a grand two-story entrance atrium; an immersive orientation theater; some 50% more exhibition space to accommodate an exciting mix of long-term and changing exhibitions; an entirely new research library; several community meeting and gathering spaces; a new campus connector between the VMHC and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; an enhanced green space; and a new café and museum store, among other amenities.

The VMHC is the only institution dedicated to presenting the entire history of Virginia, over time and across regions. The institution is guided in the belief that forging relevant and meaningful connections between the past and present is critical to fostering empathy, perspective, commonality and dialogue for all audiences today and to building a mutually beneficial future. Its comprehensive and diverse collection of national treasures — including art and decorative arts, maps, music, manuscripts, photographs, family papers, military records, furniture, textiles and more — continues to grow through gifts and acquisitions.

In conjunction with its grand re-opening, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture will debut multiple new exhibitions and galleries that present new approaches to understanding the distant and not-so-distant past. Our Commonwealth, a marquee long-term exhibition, is the centerpiece of the museum’s new offerings. It will provide an in-depth, multi-sensory exploration through the five major regions of Virginia, featuring stories and artifacts from partner organizations and cultural institutions throughout the state — a unique approach to exhibition development. Our Commonwealth will launch audiences on a memorable and scenic journey, thanks to living murals — large-scale, changing digital projections — and custom soundscapes that will immerse them in the arts, culture, food, music, industry and people of each region.

The VMHC is also focused on long-term collections partnerships with the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia and the American Civil War Museum, both of which allow the museum to provide a more comprehensive look at Virginia’s past.

In addition to Our Commonwealth, other exhibitions opening in May 2022 include American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith, a Smithsonian-organized exhibition that will dynamically bring the great American experiment of democracy to life; Treasures of Virginia, which will feature remarkable objects associated with Virginians who, through extraordinary leadership and creativity, have worked to shape the future of both our state and our nation; Cheers, Virginia!, a project that explores alcohol crafting and consumption practices in Virginia across time; a new interactive learning space for the museum's youngest guests; and History Matters, an introductory exhibition that speaks to the ways history connects us all. There will also be a new orientation theater screening Virginia: As Far As You Can Imagine, a spectacular 17-minute film highlighting indelible moments and scenes in Virginia history that serves as an introduction to the reimagined museum.

The full public opening celebration with live music, free admission and family activities takes place the weekend of May 14 and 15, 2022.

SAMANTHA SHAY'S MOTHER MELANCHOLIA with Barbara Kaufmann, Chalia La Tour, and Breanna O’Mara, and inspired by music from Sóley co-commissioned by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. Virtual On-Demand Screenings from May 9-15, 2022 to Benefit the Ukrainian People.

In-Person World Premiere Screening in Germany: May 7, 2022.

From May 9-15, Samantha Shay’s short film Mother Melancholia will be available for on-demand viewing via pay what you can, and all funds raised will go towards aiding the Ukrainian people.

"We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We also recognize that this war has received more attention than ongoing wars in non-Western countries. We condemn the war in Ukraine and all wars around the world. We also recognize that in times of conflict, marginalized people suffer disproportionately. Therefore, all proceeds from this stream will not only support the people of Ukraine, but some of the most disadvantaged, and will be split equally among three organizations: Outright International (Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community), Black Foreigners in Ukraine, Support Diabetics in Ukraine." – On behalf of the Mother Melancholia team: Samantha Shay, Director and Performer; Sóley Stefánsdóttir, Composer; Hallfridur Thora Tryggvadottir, Producer; Barbara Kaufmann, Performer; Chalia La Tour, Performer; Breanna O'Mara, Performer.

Mother Melancholia is a multi-layered portrait of four women and a eulogy for the planet set to, and inspired by, Icelandic instrumentalist Sóley's album of the same title. A self-proclaimed soundtrack for the end of the world as we know it, the dance film approaches patriarchal politics and ecofeminism through an unguarded, unsettlingly beautiful meditation on the difficulty, and immediacy, of being fully present in the world. Filmed in the surreal and eroding Icelandic landscape, Mother Melancholia is a quiet, yet urgent, conduit between the internal world of the human experience and the planet we inhabit.

Mother Melancholia was created by Samantha Shay in collaboration with the other performers: longtime Pina Bausch collaborator and dancer Barbara Kaufmann, Slave Play’s Tony Award-nominated Chalia La Tour, and Breanna O’Mara, former Tantzheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch dancer currently working with Dmitris Papaiouannou.

Produced by Hallfridur Thora Tryggvadottir, Director of Photography Victoria Sendra, Edited by Samantha Shay, Editing Consultant Barbara Kaufmann, Colorist Silvia Grav, Costume Designer Angela Trivino, Production Designer Eva Signý Berger, Production Manager Julie Runge, Director of Finance Stephanie Regina, Production Coordinator Júlíana Kristín Liborius, 1st Assistant Camera Ásta Jónína Arnardóttir, Gaffer Erla Margrét Gunnarsdóttir, Sound Engineer Albert Finnbogason, Sound Recording on Set Kristín Hrönn Jónsdóttir, Hair & Make-up Flóra Karítas Buenano, Intimacy Director Colleen Hughes, Cultural Consultant Preston "Coyote" Vargas, Seamstress Alexía Rós Gylfadóttir, Catering Arabella Morgan & Jördís Richter, Set Photography Saga Sigurdardottir & Juliette Rowland, Graphic Design FISK, Film Equipment Victoria Sendra & KUKL, Sound Engineer and Instrumentalist Albert Finnbogason, Drums Jón Óskar Jónsson, Viola and String Arrangements Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir, Violin Gudbjorg Hlin Gudmundsdottir, Violin Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir, Cello Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir, Double Bass Alexandra Kjeld.

Actor, author, civil rights activist, and Influencer George Takei will be the Parade’s inaugural Grand Marshall.

The Japan Parade is affiliated with Japan Day, an annual event that has taken place in Central Park since 2007.

This year also marks the 150th anniversary of two important milestones for Japan-United States relations: the Japanese mission to the United States, led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Iwakura Tomomi, as well as the United States’ introduction of baseball to Japan.

The Japan Parade will feature live performances by the cast of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Super Live, Young People's Chorus of New York City, Cobu, Soh Daiko, Japanese Folk Dance of NY, 10tecomai, Tate Haroryu, International Karate Organization Kyokushin-kaikan, and Anime NYC.

The Consulate General of Japan in New York initiated this project. Ambassador Mikio Mori said, “Japan and the U.S. have come a long way in our relations, from early official exchanges to economic and diplomatic partnership backed by multi-layered people-to-people exchange in recent decades. The Japan Parade is a symbolic evolution of this relationship, and a landmark culmination of Japan and New York’s friendship. We hope many will join us for this historical moment.”

The Japan Parade aims is to strengthen the solidarity of the Japanese-American community on these milestone anniversaries. Initially, the parade was planned for 2020 to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the first Japanese delegates’ visit to the U.S. in 1860, as well as the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, but was sadly cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A PRESS CONFERENCE at Buckingham Palace provided some incite into the upcoming Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Some royals will appear on the balcony but don't expect to see the faces of Prince Harry, Meghan or Prince Andrew. Taking place during the Trooping the Color parade, which kicks off the four-day celebration on the morning of Thursday, June 2, the balcony get together will only be for "working royals."

That means the Queen, if her physical health permits it, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, The Princess Royal, Anne, and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, The Duke and Duchess of Kent, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra.will be waving to the crowd as a Royal Air Force flypast takes place.

The pair-down on the balcony will no doubt be a relief to Prince Charles who has previously expressed concern that so many people were on the balcony that he feared the balcony couldn't withstand the weight and was in danger of crashing down.

There will also be a party outside Buckingham Palace. Some of the biggest stars in the world will entertain on a stage before 22,000 guests, which includes 5,000 tickets reserved for key workers.

OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY

BBC HAS COMMISSIONED a brand new drama Two Tone from Academy Award nominee and Bafta Award-winning writer Steven Knight. He will create a new original series for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the company has announced.

Two Tone (working title) tells the story of an extended family and four young people who are drawn into the world of ska and two tone music, which grew from the grass roots of Coventry and Birmingham in the late 70s and early 80s. The music united black, white and Asian youths in an expression of unity.

The six-part series will be produced by Kudos, a Banijay UK Company, and Nebulastar, in association with Kudos North, Stigma Films and Nick Angel. It will start filming later this year in Birmingham at Steven Knight’s new Digbeth Loc. Film and TV studio.

Banijay Rights will handle international distribution for the series.

THE COPYRIGHT ROYALTY BOARD has made a motion to raise rates on physical products, digital downloads and other music purchases, making them 12 cents per track rather than the current 9.1, and also includes a yearly cost of living adjustment to address inflation. Rights holders had initially pushed for an increase to 15 cents per track.

However, performers' groups and music labels welcomed the proposed settlement.

Signatories on the motion include representatives from the major label members of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), as well as members of the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). The CRB still needs to approve the proposed new rate.

The motion states that the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) along with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, as well as qualified copyright owners, have come to an agreement as related to the rate change, which would take effect in 2023.

Earlier this year, Sony Music Publishing chairman Jon Platt called the rate-setting process "currently the most critical issue facing songwrtiters and music publishers in the United States."
