CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW BRINGS THE FUTURE TO LAS VEGAS

The technology sector's flagship trade fair CES 2023 in Las Vegas January 5-8, at several locations, will host more than 4,500 exhibiting companies, including 800 startups, and showcase nearly 20,000 new transformative tech products to more than 170,000 attendees.

Those attendees can visit 2,200 exhibitors and attend 200 conference sessions, the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators that highlight advancements in AI and robotics, environment and sustainability, metaverse and gaming, digital health, smart home and lifestyle, vehicle tech and advanced mobility, home entertainment and streaming, as well as new categories: NFTs, food tech, and space tech.

A few of the advancements which will be showcased include:

In the area of sports discover how technology is changing the business of sports through enhancing athletic performance, smart arenas, esports and next-generation sponsorships.

Groundbreaking innovations from CES included the Black Box VR that brings athletes into a virtual gym of their own creation, and the Hydrow enhanced rowing machine.

Technologies in sports and fitness include iSportWeaR, a wearable device that monitors physiological data and provides health analysis and management during exercise; and the Digital Twin for Sport Guidance with Vital Sign Sensing, the world's first virtual coach for indoor bike and flywheel training using contactless detection technology to provide advice on breathing, biomechanics and coordination.

ITRI's CES 2023 highlight technologies in AI, robotics and ICT include AI Aquarium, a CES 2023 Innovation Awards honoree, the world's first smart aquarium that helps identify marine life in real time; Cubot ONE: Indoor/Outdoor AMR, an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) integrating AI, IoT and 5G technologies, that can operate indoors and outdoors, take elevators and travel on rugged ground; and RobotSmith, a cyber-physical system for metal workpiece grinding and polishing, incorporating sensing, robotics, industry best practices and software to offer a total solution for surface finishing;

Folio Photonics will join Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Booth #61701, Tech West Hall G Eureka Park. Folio Photonics and its licensed technology were spun-off from CWRU and its National Science Foundation Center for Layered Polymeric Systems by Dr. Kenneth Singer.

Dr. Singer is the Ambrose Swasey Professor of Physics and Director of the Engineering Physics Program at Case Western Reserve University and Founder and Chief Innovation Officer at Folio Photonics Inc.

CES attendees will be able to see first-hand how, by leveraging game-changing advancements in materials science to create high-capacity optical storage with improved write/read capabilities; a single Folio disc will have the same storage capacity as over 100 DVDs – with a long-term roadmap to 10TB on a single disc. Ideal for data center and hyperscale customers, Folio’s next-generation data storage media radically reduces upfront cost and TCO while making data archives active, cybersecure, performant, and sustainable.

"The high cost of storage is untenable with exploding data growth, cyber threats continuing to escalate, and data centers being one of the top contributors to energy/water usage and CO2 emissions. Current HDD and LTO tape roadmaps reflect insufficient technological advancement to meet user requirements and desired price points in the future," said Steven Santamaria, CEO, Folio Photonics. "We look forward to CES and the opportunity to show how Folio Photonics has achieved a significant breakthrough in multi-layer optical storage disc technology that will enable an unprecedented level of cost, security, performance and sustainability advantage."

What’s the outlook on streaming devices? For many households during the COVID era’s peak, the connected living room – powered by smart TVs and streaming video devices – became the center of their entertainment world. With movie theaters, Broadway, bars, and sporting events temporarily shuttered, finding a way to boost your home entertainment game became a major trend. But forecasters were surprised by slower sales of CTV devices in 2022. Global inflation, along with massive supply chain issues, created a perfect storm.

Plus, a lot of people made their upgrades in 2020 or 2021 and will continue enjoying their new gadgets for the next few years. That being said: Things break, people move, and the streaming wars are only heating up, with more and more major players entering the game or merging (think Discovery and HBO). With inflation predicted to recede in the near future and supply chain issues gradually resolving, 2023 could be a rebound year for home entertainment.

One trend to look out for: media and device overload, and companies focusing on ease of use and functionality rather than infinite choice. Samsung, for one, has already announced that its CES theme is "Bringing Calm to a Connected World."

Show Themes in partnership with the World Academy of Art and Science, will shine a spotlight on how technology helps people tackle the world’s most pressing problems. Human Security for All will be a theme throughout the show, from conference programming to keynotes highlighting innovation and products improving the lives of people around the world.

The new Web3 category will focus on how associated technologies, including those for metaverse and cryptocurrency can revolutionize how we live, work and play in an immersive, inclusive and distributed virtual universe.

The future is electrified and the automotive sector will be bigger than ever, with nearly 300 exhibitors in the West Hall of the Convention Center. The exhibits will feature the latest in self-driving tech, electric vehicles and personal mobility devices.

Digital Health is an important and growing sector. The convention will feature a larger and more diverse digital health category. As patients seek ways to empower themselves and take control of their care and well-being, show attendees will discover tools and technologies to lower costs, improve health equity and save lives. Expect to see companies like Abbott, MedWand Solutions, LOTTE Healthcare, Omron Healthcare and more.

On January 4 The Heart of the Connected Home will be presented by presented by Omdia at the Convention Center. On January 5 its Virtual Care and Independent Living: Keeping Seniors Safe at the Venetian Expo.

January 6 features The High Tech/High Octane Lifestyle: Diet, Nutrition, Sleep and Workouts at the Venetian Expo.
