Girls Make Beats aims to empower girls by expanding the female presence of music producers, DJs, and audio engineers. GMB was founded in 2012 by certified audio engineer, Tiffany "Delilah" Miranda.

According to an Annenberg Inclusion Study "Only 2.6%of music producers are female".

The audio producer and audio engineer work together to create a song or album. However, the audio producers are in charge of the sound of a track, while the audio engineer runs the sound board. Audio producers have more leadership and managerial responsibility.

Again, an audio producer is a manager, as they manage the aspects of the recording and the individuals involved. Audio engineers, on the other hand, are technicians and manage studio equipment to achieve specific sound for the artist.

Based in South Florida, GMB works with girls ages 5-17 and hosts educational seminars, summer camps, industry panels, and networking events. GMB helps girls further their careers as music producers, DJs, and audio engineers by providing courses on industry-leading hardware and software. GMB also serves as an outlet for girls to unite and collaborate within the music industry.

With a presence growing globally, Girls Make Beats is dedicated to creating real-world opportunities for girls to break barriers in the music industry.

GMB has strategically partnered with industry titans, music industry professionals, and educational institutes to create unparalleled opportunities for the girls in the program.

Those include Toyoto, which began their partnership in 2017. They hosted a tour of workshops that introduced 49 teen girls from around the country to the fields of music production, DJ-ing and audio engineering. Each five-day workshop gave the girls hands-on experience with beat-making and DJ software, a unique performance opportunity, and access to an exclusive music industry panel. The attendees also had the opportunity to tour Paramount Pictures, iHeartRadio stations, and other world class recording studios.

Prznt
With hip hop having overtaken rock and pop as the most popular genre in the world, it is the communication of choice for the under 35 crowd. Naysayers allege it promotes violence; while others assert it provides a harmless, emotional outlet.

Possessing the required attitude ONErpm artist: PRZNT Prznt, is a 23 year old Los Angeles based Hip-Hop artist from Cuba, who at the age of 6, moved to Florida with his mother and younger sister to start a new life.

NOGXNRE is a Los Angeles-based collective founded by Abel “Aloor” Loor, Corey “YEROC” Scherer and Adrian Chafer.

"Music is the world’s only universal language and diversity is at the forefront of that belief. At NOGXNRE, we pride ourselves in continuously thinking outside of the creative box. Our artists push the boundaries of what it means to make music in the confines of a “genre.” With producers specializing in Latin, Trap, Hip-Hop, Country, EDM, Punk Rock and more, NOGXNRE is the only collective putting producers first," reads their philosophy statement.

"Our focus is to create and manage producer-driven projects and collaborations as well as curate unforgettable events all over the world. Our creative collective provides asset management services, label services, distribution, marketing, and playlisting.

"With music being so dynamic, education is a necessary foundation for success.

"Our educational content is targeted towards producers and artists who routinely create music in different genres and are looking to succeed in the music industry. Unfortunately, most educational content for producers on YouTube tends to focus on Urban Trap. We offer in depth tutorials for a wide variety of genres teaching the tips and tricks that make each genre special curated by producers who have achieved success in their respective field."

ART AND ABOUT

INTERVALS OF PEACE
previously unseen Civil War portraits by prisoner and artist Alfred McGloughlin are on display at Kilmainham Gaol Museum in Dublin, Ireland.

The exhibition wase launched on Thursday March 31, with Alfred McGloughlin’s daughter, Charlotte Groarke doing the honors.

Intervals of Peace showcases 39 portraits and watercolor sketches of Mountjoy Prison.

On October 21, 1922, several months into the Irish Civil War, Alfred McGloughlin was arrested in his home by Free State forces and brought to Wellington Barracks in Dublin. He spent the following year as a political prisoner, first in Wellington Barracks, then Hare Park in the Curragh, before a final stay in Mountjoy Prison from where he was released on October 13, 1923. Although he was an active supporter of the Anti-Treaty side, he was never charged with a specific offense. He experienced periods of severe ill-treatment during his incarceration but, as mentioned in his obituary in 1932, he also found ‘intervals of peace in prison, sketching in watercolors, and filling a portfolio with pencil-drawings of his comrades’. 39 portraits and watercolor sketches of Mountjoy by Alfred McGloughlin will go on public display for the first time in Kilmainham Gaol in a special exhibition to mark the centenary of the Civil War.

Alfred McGloughlin was the nephew of 1916 leaders Patrick and William Pearse and grew up in the Pearse household. He later helped in the running of Patrick Pearse’s school, Scoil Éanna. He went on to become a draughtsman with J & C McGloughlin Ltd., a decorative metalwork business owned by his father’s family, and studied art part-time in the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art.

McGloughlin also developed an interest in theatre where he wrote and performed in numerous plays. He joined the Irish Volunteers and was involved in the Howth gun-running of 1914. He was Sinn Féin’s director of elections in south Dublin for the 1918 and 1921 elections and stood as a candidate himself during the local elections of 1920. Following his release from prison he set up his own building company. When this business failed, he obtained a position as a draughtsman with the Office of Public Works. He remained active as a political journalist, and was a regular contributor to the republican newspaper An Phoblacht.. His health never recovered from his time in prison and he died from heart disease aged just 44 in 1932.

This brand new exhibition will run at the Kilmainham Gaol Museum in Dublin, Ireland until October 25, 2022.

“George’s vision, tenacity, and willingness to take great risks for the sake of art and artists is no less than extraordinary, and it means a great deal to all of us to pay tribute to his outstanding legacy with the Monte Cristo Award,” adds O’Neill Board Chairman Tom Viertel.

SPREADING THE WORD

FORMULA ONE RACING returns to Las Vegas a 40 year absence. The Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday in November 2023. That will mark 38 years since the race was run on a Saturday.

The 1985 South African Grand Prix was the last race to be held on a Saturday. Traditionally, the main race has always sped off on a Sunday.

The race will take place at night on the Las Vegas Strip with drivers weaving in and out of resorts such as The Bellagio, The Venetian, Treasure Island and more - navigating 14 turns, running for 3.8 miles (6.12k) that will see drivers reach speeds of over 210 mph during a race which will last 50 laps. According to FIA rules there is a two hour time limit to finish.

F1 previously was held in Las Vegas in Las Vegas in 1981 and 1982. Drivers started their engines on a temporarily constructed track around the parking lot at the back of Caesars Place Resort, a venue that received massive blow back and was poorly attended by fans - although Paul Newman was there serving as racing director of the final round of the Formula One Season 1981.

Newman enjoyed a successful career as a race car driver and IndyCar owner. Although he died in 2008, Newman was inducted into the SCCA Hall of Fame at the National convention in Las Vegas in 2009.

JIMMY KIMMEL AND JIMMY FALLON traded places as an April Fools Day joke. In one of the most delightful and complicated maneuvers to strategize and pull off, Kimmel took over Fallon's New York desk, where he even penned the traditional Friday thank you notes - while Fallon anchored from Kimmel's Los Angeles seat. All of the guests, such as Hugh Jackman, knew of the plan and managed to keep quiet.

Perhaps the most clever April Fool's Day event ever staged on television, it was also wonderful to see late night talk show hosts who genuinely like each other. Credit goes to NBC and ABC who had to sign off on the swap.

TWO TIME OSCAR WINNER RENEE ZELLWEGER
is nothing short of amazing in her television debut starring in The Thing About Pam as Pamela Marie Hupp, a woman who on August 16, 2016, murdered Louis Gumperberger, a crime for which she is serving a life sentence, without parole.

When Betsy Faria is murdered in small-town Missouri, the police believe it's an open-and-shut case involving her husband, who is arrested and found guilty of the crime. However, unanswered questions remain, and the case not only leads to a wrongful conviction but also sets into motion a chain of events that exposed a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp.

This true-crime drama involves insurance money, Pam's difficulty caring for her sick mother, her desired face lift, and the District Attorney discovering that her re-election bid is challenged. The six episode NBC mini series was inspired by a saga told on Dateline NBC.

Others in the cast include:
Josh Duhamel as Joel Schwartz, the defense attorney for Russ Faria
Judy Greer as Leah Askey, the Lincoln County prosecutor who tried Russ Faria twice for his wife's murder
Gideon Adlon as Mariah Day, Betsy and Russ' 17-year-old daughter
Sean Bridgers as Mark Hupp, Pam Hupp's husband
Suanne Spoke as Janet, Betsy's mother and Mariah's grandmother
Mac Brandt as Detective McCarrick, a detective assigned to Betsy's murder case
Katy Mixon as Betsy Faria, Russ' wife, Mariah Day's mother, and the murder victim
Glenn Fleshler as Russ Faria, Betsy's husband and Mariah's father
Dateline journalist Keith Morrison provides the show's narration.

The role required Zellweger to wear face and body prosthetics to portray Hupp. Makeup artist Arien Tuiten needed 80 minutes to apply prosthetics to Renee's lovely face. Hair was designed by Lawrence David and make-up department head Carla Brenholtz.

The series is fascinating and Zellweger, an exceptional actress, delivers a riviting performance.

OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS (NAB) convention takes place in Las Vegas towards the end of this month. In anticipation of that telecommunications, media and technology consulting firm Altman Solon, spoke to industry executives across productions in 30+ countries spanning North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and has released a survey entittled: Virtual and Remote Production to Drive TV and Film Post-Pandemic.

It found that: almost 70 per cent anticipate expanding virtual production, and more than 60 per cent will increase their use of remote collaboration tools and cloud-based technologies even after the pandemic has ended.

Soundstage capacity constraints will continue to drive more virtual production.
A hybrid of remote/virtual production and on-set processes will become more common in productions. Virtual production use will drive down costs and cycle times, at least over the long term. The industry will see a transition from leveraging point solutions to implementing end-to-end platforms across various phases of production.
Respondents also said they are seeing benefits to incorporating virtual technologies into production and post-production activities, such as using the cloud and virtualisation in post production.

However, "For early adopters, higher capital costs related to new technology investment can slow down deployment, with more than half of the survey’s respondents reluctant to invest in virtual and remote solutions cited budget constraints as the primary reason. Other potential challenges include the lack of process standards, a fragmented market of production solutions, and a lack of tool compatibility."

The Pirates of Penzance score includes such favorites as I am the very model of a modern Major-General (the most frequently parodied patter song ever), coloratura soprano opera inspired Poor Wand’ring One, Sullivan’s signature famed double chorus When the Foeman Bares His Steel and Come friends who plough the sea (the source for the tune of Hail, hail the gang’s all here and reminiscent of the Anvil Chorus from Verdi’s Il Trovatore –a true example of historical before and after).

On the coast of Cornwall, a band of tenderhearted pirates celebrates the coming of age of Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday. Now, Frederic has vowed to devote his life to the extermination of piracy - until a ludicrous leap year snag threatens to keep him apprenticed to the pirates for life! Throw in a bevy of beauties, a brash Pirate King, the delightfully stuffy Major-General Stanley.

THE PATSY written by Barry Conners.

Directed by Jack Cummings III.

Performed by David Greenspan.

Filled with familial intrigue, marital sparring, lovers in pursuit, country club scandals, and labors of the heart, The Patsy premiered on Broadway in 1925, becoming an instant success. The hit play was then immediately immortalized on film by a quartet of early 20th century luminaries - stars Marion Davies and Marie Dressler, director King Vidor, and producer William Randolph Hearst.

In 2011, six-time Obie Award winner David Greenspan, along with Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III, put their own spin on the feisty drawing room comedy by giving all nine roles to Greenspan. Now Greenspan and Transport Group once again resurrect this Cinderella story of a girl a little less beautiful, a little less loved, and her fractious, gossipy family, which explores a family’s aspirations of wealth, status, and love in pre-depression America.

Opens Sunday, April 10, at Abrons Arts Center, NYC.

The Skin of Our Teeth is a play forright now! It's about a family that encounters the end of the world over and over and over again," says Lileana Blain-Cruz. "To be on the brink of extinction - and not only survive but invent and laugh and LIVE and LEARN - is extraordinary!" Performances through May 29 only at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York City.

Lincoln Center Theater is deeply grateful to New York’s Senator Chuck Schumer for his outstanding leadership in establishing the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program, aka Save Our Stages, of which LCT is among the many beneficiaries. This vital program has provided a much-needed anchor of support to the arts community as we emerge from the devastating pandemic crisis. LCT salutes Senator Schumer for his hard work and vision and for being a superb champion of the arts. Thank you, Senator Schumer!
